I always enjoy granola and muesli type things in the morning and after regularly dropping €4 on a box of crunchy granola from the store I recently saw a number of posts about home-made granola on various food blogs I thought I’d give this a try. I believe it’s traditionally made with maple syrup but alas it seemed that my bottle of syrup had started growing things due to not being in the refrigerator – oops, so I’ve used honey instead.
Ingredients
– 500g Rolled Oats
– 70g Butter
– 5tbsps Brown Sugar
– 1.5 decilitres Honey
– 0.75 decilitres Water
Instructions
- Start off by putting the sugar, water, honey and butter into a saucepan. Place onto the stove and start to melt it down.
- While the butter and honey is melting down, empty the oats into a large bowl. Bring the sugar and butter mixture to the boil, stirring all the time. Remove from the heat and pour on top of the oats in the bowl.
- Mix the oats well to ensure everything is well covered with the sugar, butter and honey mixture before transferring into a large, greased baking tray. Flatten out a little and break up any large clumps.
- Place into the oven at around 150 degrees Celsius for about 40 minutes, removing from the oven every 10 minutes or so and stirring around and breaking up any large clumps. When nice and golden brown, remove from the oven and allow to cool before storing in an air-tight tin. Serve with fresh or dried fruit, yoghurt or milk and some honey and enjoy!

Thanks Melissa – I did another Granola recipe a bit more recently – that one was much nicer I think 😀
